Back off Holibobs
Alas, a girl can only go abroad and FiNd HeRsElF on the Ha Giang loop for so long. Bloody grateful for the wee break, but I feel a longer blog post when my brain is less fried would do the trip a bit more justice.
Instead, I thought it best to get the ball rolling with my little weekly round-up. Mind-you, the world of Journalism has been a bit on fire recently (when is it not.) Truley though, returning to my desk felt like a bomb going off. My appreciation for the poor wee editorial desk has gone up ten-fold.
Monday: I knew my inbox was going to be hellish, but respectfully, I never wish to recieve that many emails ever again. Obviously feel a tad guilty, mostly because the world of local news moves particularly fast - much of it was rendered ‘useless’ by the time I had returned. Majority of my day was spent tending to my inbox and watching Emmerdale (a rogue part of a wee evening shift).
Tuesday: I felt like I was floundering a wee bit, having come back to find a few of my articles had tweaks needed doing to them. Two days in and my spine is already on the blink.
Wednesday: I had my first legal meeting about an investigation! At this stage I could not tell you if it will pass. However, I am learning a-lot with regards to the legal process. Somewhere, my McNaes guide is covered in a thick layer of dust begging to be read!
Thursday: I get a wee message in inbox about a spelling mistake. Is anyone really that shocked?
Friday: Had my first outing of the week. Normally I am out a few times a week, but with a busy news-flow there was no need to move off of my desk until Friday. Had a trip to Wakefield after a morning of breaking news to try a Fish and Chips. Two hours later I was speaking to the family of a young man, to do a memorial piece. Funny ol day.
An article that made me crack a smile: I had the complete pleasure of speaking with Cllr (now Lord Mayor) Safiya Saeed. A complete ray of sunshine, I had the opportunity to write a profile piece about how she was elected. An absolute joy of a lady indeed.
‘I started from a desk chair I pulled out of the skip - now I'm Lord Mayor'
It goes without saying that in every blog post I will need to include a small line that acknowledges: My opinions and thoughts are my own, I am not including links OR disclose any information not available to the public and I will not write anything that will damage or tarnish the image of the company for which I work. Obviously.
